About This Audiobook

This program is read by Thor Willink and the author, with Rana Willink and Zisa Willink.

New York Times-bestselling author Jocko Willink delivers a second powerful and empowering Way of the Warrior Kid audiobook about finding your inner strength and being the best you can be, even in the face of adversity in Marc's Mission.

In Way of the Warrior Kid, Marc went from wimp to warrior in one summer. He learned to be strong inside and out, mastered his multiplication tables, conquered his fear of swimming, and even made nice with the meanest kid on the playground (who turned out to be not so mean after all).

Now, in this second audiobook in the middle grade Warrior Kid series, Marc uses what he learned last summer to help another kid who needs a boost. Can he take the skills he learned from his Navy SEAL uncle Jake to instill the warrior spirit in someone who needs his help?

Four readers are named in this audiobook's own description, and one name reaches the credit. "This program is read by Thor Willink and the author, with Rana Willink and Zisa Willink," says the opening line of the copy. The narrator field says Jocko Willink and stops. Whatever a family recording of a book about a boy learning courage from his uncle sounds like, this listing will not tell you who you are hearing for three voices out of four.

Where This One Lands

Marc went from wimp to warrior in one summer in the first book: strong inside and out, multiplication tables mastered, fear of swimming conquered, and peace made with the meanest kid on the playground, who turned out to be not so mean after all. This second volume asks whether any of that can be handed on. Another kid needs a boost, and Marc has the methods of his Navy SEAL uncle Jake to work with. Three hours and fifty minutes, with no wasted motion in the premise.

Thor Willink is listed first among the readers, ahead of the author, which is an unusual order and difficult to read as accidental. Rana Willink and Zisa Willink follow. Four voices across a recording under four hours is close to a full-cast production at this scale, and it is just what a buyer would want to know before choosing between formats. It occurs in one sentence of the description and nowhere in the metadata.

Jocko Willink wrote the book and reads part of it, and the credit collapses all of that into a solo billing. The practical consequence is minor: you will hear more than one voice, and the page did say so once. The larger consequence is that anybody filtering for multi-voice recordings will never surface this title, and anybody buying on the strength of the narrator field gets more than the field promised. The description signs off with its own cross-sell, "Listen to them both!", followed by the two titles stacked one above the other. That imperative is the only verb in this whole listing acknowledging the format at all, and it belongs to the publisher.

Why Marc's Mission Works as an Audiobook

Way of the Warrior Kid is the series, this is number two, and the column cannot agree on how many exist. BStep reports that "three of them are Accelerated Reader books." June A. DeMoya writes about "Both of the warrior kids books" and wishes for more to purchase. Two different counts of one shelf sit in a single column, and a third reviewer opens by naming the previous volume, not this one. The series field offers a bare 2.

Parents are the buyers here and they say so without prompting. June A. DeMoya recommends it "to all parents or grandparents to purchase for any child 4-5 years or older" and describes a grandson who loves the books. BStep's children asked a school librarian to stock them. Loyalbasin listened beside a five-year-old son. Three of these five entries are an adult relaying what a child did with the book, which is standard for the category and still worth naming.

Navy SEAL uncle Jake is the engine of the whole series, and Ghost2401 supplies the only account of what this book does with him: a sequel that "dives deeper into his journey of self-improvement under the mentorship of his Navy SEAL uncle, Jake," taking on "challenges such as managing emotions, resisting peer pressure, and maintaining discipline." That is a fair summary, and it stands as the only plot description anywhere in the column. That entry is also the one formatted as a product review, with a Pros heading and a check mark, and it breaks off mid-word partway through its own list.

What Gives Us Pause

Accelerated Reader surfaces once, in BStep's review, offered as a reason for parents of school-age children to buy. No line here confirms whether this title carries that designation, or whether it would apply to a recording at all or only to a printed copy. The claim belongs to the reviewer alone, and a parent choosing this format specifically for school credit cannot verify it from anything printed here. The chronology is its own oddity. This came out in April 2018 and the earliest written response is dated February 2024, close to six years later, with four more arriving after that. Whatever brought people to the Warrior Kid books, it was not launch week.

June A. DeMoya's entry contains the quietly telling line of the column: "I am reading the book to him." On a page that names four people who have already recorded exactly that, an adult is reading aloud from print instead. The same review plans to "bring it home after he is finished" and worries about a grandson who "has struggled with reading," which is the precise difficulty a recording under four hours is built to remove.

Every visible grade on this page is a five, and the badge reads 4.9. Six whole-star votes have no route to a 4.9 average at all, and all five grades you can read sit above the number instead of around it. Whatever that badge is averaging, it is not these five plus one more. A minor discrepancy, and just the sort that makes everything else on a listing harder to take at face value.

Who Should Pick Up Marc's Mission

Families with a young child are the target, and the reviews put names to the ages: a five-year-old son, a grandson of seven going on eight, a recommendation for any child of four or five and up. The format is doing real work for them. Under four hours fits a couple of journeys or a week of bedtimes, the lessons are stated out loud, never buried, and a household with several Willinks reading aloud is not a bad model for a household that wants to listen together. The tag on this listing reads Growing Up and Facts of Life, an odd shelf for a book about discipline and mentoring, though not a wrong one. The publisher is Macmillan Young Listeners, a name worth holding up against a column in which every single reviewer describes reading.

Start with the first book if you can, because one reviewer opens by naming it in place of this one and Marc's arc plainly begins there. Anyone shopping specifically for a multi-voice recording should note that this credit hides three of them. Read it with the child rather than at them, which is what those four names in the description appear to have had in mind.

Good to Know

Which voices actually appear on the Marc's Mission audiobook?

The description names four: Thor Willink, the author, Rana Willink and Zisa Willink. The narrator credit lists Jocko Willink only. So the recording carries more voices than the listing advertises, and that single sentence of copy is the one place on the whole page where the information appears.

Who is this audiobook written for?

Publisher copy files it as a middle grade audiobook in the Warrior Kid series. Reviewers report a five-year-old son, a grandson of seven, and a recommendation covering any child of four or five and older. JC11 calls it easy for all ages. Under four hours suits a short attention span well.
