How to Cancel Your Audible Subscription

Want to cancel your Audible subscription? Don't worry, the process is straightforward. Here's a step-by-step guide to canceling your subscription without losing the books you've already purchased.

Before you cancel: what you need to know

  • Your books stay accessible. All books purchased with your credits remain in your library, even after cancellation.
  • Unused credits are lost. Any remaining credits will be forfeited. Use them before you cancel!
  • Plus Catalog access. You'll lose access to titles in the Plus Catalog (included with the subscription).
  • You can re-subscribe. You can re-subscribe at any time and often benefit from a welcome-back offer.

Steps to cancel on the website

  1. Log in to audible.com with your Amazon account.
  2. Click your name in the top right corner, then click "Account Details".
  3. In the "Membership Details" section, click "Cancel Membership".
  4. Audible will offer several options to keep you (pause, discount...). Click "Continue Cancellation".
  5. Confirm your choice. Your subscription will remain active until the end of the current billing period.

Note: Cancellation cannot be done from the mobile app. You must use the audible.com website.

Tip: pause your subscription

Did you know that Audible lets you pause your subscription for 1 to 3 months? It's a great option if you simply need a break without losing your benefits. During the cancellation process, Audible will offer you this option.

Frequently asked questions

How do I cancel an Audible membership?

Sign in at audible.com in a browser, open Account Details from your name at the top right, then click Cancel membership in the membership section. Go through the retention screens by confirming each time until you receive the confirmation email. The membership stays active until the end of the period you already paid for.

Can I cancel Audible during the free trial?

Yes, at any time and at no cost. If you cancel before the trial ends you pay nothing, and the audiobook you picked with your trial credit stays in your library for good. That is what makes the trial genuinely risk-free: you can test the format and walk away freely.

Why is there no cancel button in the app?

The Audible mobile apps do not include a cancellation option. Use the browser on your phone or a computer and go to audible.com. One exception: if your membership is billed through Apple, cancel it from your Apple ID subscriptions on your iPhone (Settings, your name, Subscriptions).

Do I lose my audiobooks if I cancel?

No. Every title bought with a credit is a permanent purchase: it stays in your library and in the app, re-downloadable for life, even without a membership. You do lose any unused credits and the unlimited access to the Plus Catalog.

Will Audible refund me if I forget to cancel in time?

A charge for a month already started is not refunded automatically, but Audible customer service is often accommodating if you contact them soon after an unwanted charge, especially when no credit from that month has been used. The safest route is to cancel a few days before the renewal date shown in Account Details.

Should I cancel or pause my membership?

If you only need a break of a few weeks or want to catch up on your backlog, a pause of one to three months is the better deal: no charge during the pause, and you keep your credits, member discounts and Plus Catalog access. Cancel if you have stopped listening altogether or are switching platforms.
