About This Audiobook

This audiobook bundle includes all three titles from The New York Dares series.

Dare to Surrender

After ending a relationship to a cheating, domineering man, Isabelle Masters takes off in her leased Mercedes, only to be arrested for grand theft and hauled to the police station. To her surprise, she is rescued by Gabriel Dare, a man she's long been attracted to. Gabe offers Isabelle freedom - along with an invitation to Eden, an exclusive island resort where everything is possible. Though Gabe yearns to possess Isabelle, he knows he must instead help bring out the independence she yearns for - or risk losing her for good. Can Isabelle surrender to his erotic demands without losing her sense of self once more?

Dare to Submit

Decklan Dare gets everything he wants, and he wants Amanda Collins. Which is perfect, since Amanda wants him - especially his no-strings-attached approach to sex. Emotions are overrated, but the sex isn't. They both know it and both desire it. But as their connection deepens, Decklan, a man who's used to being in charge, finds that Amanda can't be controlled. But she has her reasons. She just might be hiding something - something that won't let her dare to get too close.

Dare to Seduce

Alpha billionaire businessman Max Savage has had a thing for Lucy Dare for as long as he can remember, but he values his long-standing friendship with her brothers too much to cross the line. But when Lucy shows up at a party on the arm of another man, Max doesn't like the changes he sees in her and vows to make her his own. It's now or never. He'll dare to seduce her - no matter what the consequences.

Three complete novels for one credit is the arithmetic that settles this purchase, and on that measure the audiobook wins comfortably. The New York Dares runs fourteen hours and seventeen minutes with Sophie Eastlake reading, collecting Dare to Surrender, Dare to Submit and Dare to Seduce, and it follows two Dare brothers and their sister through three separate romances. The listing shelves the bundle under anthologies and short stories, which is the first thing worth correcting, because nothing inside it is short.

Our Take on The New York Dares

'sexy, sexy, read' is the title one five-star response from July 2019 gave its own verdict, and it goes on to say plainly that anybody bothered by that description should pass on the whole set. Blunt, accurate, and rather more useful than publisher copy that prefers phrases like erotic demands. The same entry works through Lucy's book at length, the only sister with two extremely protective brothers, a woman who has built a deliberately different life largely to get out from under their supervision.

Family, rather than a mystery arc or a shared antagonist, is what binds the three novels. The Dares are people who control things, and each book sets one of them opposite somebody who declines to be controlled. Gabriel wants to possess Isabelle and has to help her become independent instead. Decklan gets everything he wants and discovers Amanda cannot be managed. Max has spent years refusing to cross a line drawn by friendship. Same engine, three times, which is either deeply satisfying or repetitive depending on how you read romance.

Heat level runs high and stays there, and the description never hedges about it: an exclusive island resort where everything is possible, a no-strings arrangement, erotic demands named outright. Nobody lands on this bundle by accident. What did surprise me is how far the emotional labor runs on self-esteem rather than on desire, especially in the first book, where Isabelle is walking away from a domineering partner and the romance has to rebuild something that relationship damaged.

Why Listen to The New York Dares

Mapping an emotional throughline instead of recapping plot is rarer in romance commentary than it ought to be, and one March 2020 response does exactly that. It treats all three as stories carrying deep feelings out of the past, and its account of Gabriel and Isabelle catches the detail the marketing skips, which is that the two had already met at functions while she was still with the man who wrecked her confidence. The reunion at the police station is a second meeting rather than a first, and that changes the entire opening.

Fourteen hours for three complete romances is an efficient use of a credit, and the structure suits audio better than a single enormous novel would. Each book brings its own beginning, so the natural stopping points are obvious and generously spaced. Lose the thread across a busy week and the next book simply resets the situation for you, no recap required. Anybody who listens to long series knows how rarely that particular combination turns up in a bundle.

One reader carries all three novels, which matters more in a collection than in a standalone. Isabelle, Amanda and Lucy have to sound like three different women inside a single sitting, and so do the two brothers and the sister, who share a surname and a habit of command. Sophie Eastlake is the sole credited voice for the entire set, so consistency of characterization across the three arcs is what to test in the sample, rather than any individual line reading.

What to Watch For in The New York Dares

Four stars in July 2019 brings the most practical note anywhere on the page: each book stands alone, and yet the three sit inside one family, so a certain amount of shared history accumulates as you go. That same response also supplies backstory the description withholds completely, namely that the Dare siblings lost both parents early in a car accident. It explains the protectiveness driving the third book far better than anything in the official summary manages.

Order is worth settling before you press play. The description lists Surrender, Submit and Seduce in that sequence, and that is the internal chronology of the family. Numbering them is what the listing declines to do, and the series metadata sits blank on both counts, so nothing signals to a browsing buyer that these are books one, two and three of a set rather than three unconnected romances thrown together by a publisher.

Two further flags before you commit. The bundle is explicit from early on, which makes it a poor choice for shared speakers, a car containing children, or an office of any kind, and audio offers no way to skim past a scene the way an eye does on a page. Second, that anthologies and short stories tag is simply wrong. These are three full-length contemporary romances, and a buyer filtering for short fiction will arrive here by mistake.

Who Should Listen to The New York Dares

Romance listeners who want the alpha-billionaire register without apology are the target audience, and Carly Phillips delivers it without irony or hedging. Possessive heroes, women who refuse to be possessed, luxury settings, and a family that closes ranks around its own. If forbidden attraction is your trope rather than enemies to lovers, the third book, where Max has quietly wanted his friends' sister for years, is the one that justifies the purchase on its own.

Bundle buyers with long daily listens get the strongest value here. Three self-contained arcs means you always know how far you are from a satisfying ending, which beats one vast novel when your listening arrives in twenty-minute pieces. Anyone new to Carly Phillips also gets a genuine sample of the range in a single transaction rather than committing to one title and guessing whether the rest will suit.

Avoid it if explicit content is a problem, because the description signals it and the written record confirms it in the bluntest possible terms. Avoid it too if you need each romance in a set to feel structurally distinct, since the same dynamic of control and surrender powers all three books in turn. Listeners who want three complete high-heat contemporary arcs from a single voice, with no cliffhangers stranded between them, are getting precisely the product described.

At a Glance

  • Voice: One credited reader covers the whole bundle, which is rarer than it sounds in collections assembled from separately released titles.
  • Big ideas: Alpha billionaire heroes, forbidden attraction, no-strings arrangements, autonomy reclaimed after a controlling relationship
  • Atmosphere: High heat, glossy and possessive, with a thread of family loyalty running underneath
  • Worth it?: Three full-length romances on a single credit, explicit throughout and driven by one repeated dynamic, which is either the appeal or the objection.

Questions Listeners Ask

Which books are included in The New York Dares audiobook?

All three titles in the set: Dare to Surrender pairs Gabriel Dare with Isabelle Masters, Dare to Submit pairs Decklan Dare with Amanda Collins, and Dare to Seduce pairs Lucy Dare with Max Savage, a businessman who has been close to her brothers for years. The description presents them in that order.

How explicit is The New York Dares audiobook?

Very. The publisher copy names erotic demands and a no-strings arrangement between two of the leads outright, and the anthologies tag is the only thing on the page understating it. Treat this as headphones-only listening rather than something for shared speakers or a family car journey.
