About This Audiobook

New York Times best seller Elle Kennedy brings you a sexy new Off-Campus novel that can be enjoyed as a stand-alone.

She's good at achieving her goals....

College senior Sabrina James has her whole future planned out: graduate from college, kick butt in law school, and land a high-paying job at a cutthroat firm. Her path to escaping her shameful past certainly doesn't include a gorgeous hockey player who believes in love at first sight. One night of sizzling heat and surprising tenderness is all she's willing to give John Tucker, but sometimes one night is all it takes for your entire life to change.

But the game just got a whole lot more complicated.

Tucker believes being a team player is as important as being the star. On the ice he's fine staying out of the spotlight, but when it comes to becoming a daddy at the age of 22, he refuses to be a bench warmer. It doesn't hurt that the soon-to-be mother of his child is beautiful, whip-smart, and keeps him on his toes. The problem is Sabrina's heart is locked up tight, and the fiery brunette is too stubborn to accept his help. If he wants a life with the woman of his dreams, he'll have to convince her that some goals can be made only with an assist.

Sabrina James has law school mapped out before this audiobook opens: graduate, get in, get hired somewhere cutthroat, and never go back to whatever she is running from. John Tucker plays hockey for Briar, believes in love at first sight, and is content to stay out of the spotlight while the stars take it. They get one night. One night turns out to be enough to rearrange both plans, and Elle Kennedy spends ten hours and thirty-nine minutes on the consequence rather than on the meeting, which is the choice the written column keeps coming back to.

Four Usable Reviews Behind a 4.2 Badge

Off-Campus is on its fourth book here, and the copy insists it can be enjoyed as a stand-alone. That is broadly true of the plot and completely false of the pleasure. Sabrina and Tucker's story closes itself; the surrounding cast does not. The written responses talk about earlier couples by first name, argue over which of the Briar men now holds the top spot, and reference a running joke about who gets to be godparent. None of that is required. All of it is the reason people describe this one as their favorite rather than merely as good.

Fifty-two votes support the 4.2 badge, and the arithmetic behind that number is unremarkable. The column beneath it is where the problem lives. Five responses are displayed. One of them, filed October 8, 2024, consists of a comma, the words perfect condition, and three hearts, which is a verdict on a parcel rather than on a novel. That leaves four usable readings, and any generalization about what readers think here rests on four people, not on fifty-two and not on five.

Five months before this recording was published, a four-star arrived describing Sabrina as a determined, headstrong, stoic law student and Tucker as a sweet, laidback southern hockey player whose plans end up on thin ice. Dated September 26, 2016, it is a review of the book rather than of the audio, sitting on an audio record released the following March. That is how these pages work, and it is worth remembering when a response praises something you cannot hear.

Jones Voices Two Plans Upended by One Night

Hockey romance runs on banter, and banter is the one thing audio does better than print. Tucker is written as the calm one, the team player who genuinely does not need the spotlight, which makes him a rarer romance lead than the arrogant striker the subgenre usually reaches for. Sabrina is armored, funny about it, and unwilling to be helped. Their exchanges carry the book, and spoken aloud they carry it further.

Susannah Jones is billed as the reader, and the assignment is larger than the runtime suggests. This is a romance built from two interior positions, a woman with a plan and a man who has just discovered he wants to be a father at twenty-two, and both perspectives are written from the inside. A single reader has to make the switch audible at the top of every chapter without turning either voice into a costume, and has to handle explicit scenes without sliding into performance. That is a specific skill, and it is the whole production here.

Tucker's situation is also the reason this book outlasts its premise. The pregnancy is not a complication invented in act two, it is the plot, and the novel takes seriously what it means for two people who barely know each other to negotiate a child, a law school application and a family neither of them planned. The description undersells that entirely, offering a shameful past and a locked heart where the novel delivers something a good deal more specific.

One Reader Supplies the Missing Content Note

One reader did the job the publisher did not. An October 14, 2021 five-star opens with a content note before the review proper: accidental pregnancy, and thoughts about terminating the pregnancy. Nothing on this page carries that information. For a romance where the central plot turns on an unplanned conception and the heroine's deliberations about it, that omission is not a small one, and it is the kind of thing a listener would rather learn before hour two than during it.

Read the family material as the harder half of the book. The description keeps to a shameful past and a locked heart, which is soft language for what the written column describes: a December 28, 2025 four-star calls the stepfather disgusting, says the grandmother should have known better, and notes that the mother is not in the picture at all. That anger is genuine and earned, and it means the book has a sour undertow beneath the flirting.

Cover design copyright Morten Gorm, Flamingo Books. That sentence closes the description on a recording, which is a jacket credit for a printed object with no bearing on anything you are going to hear. Small thing, and a reliable signal: the copy on this record was assembled from print material rather than written for audio, which is also why nothing in it mentions a reader.

Start Here for Sports Romance With Real Stakes

Romance listeners who want the sports subgenre with an actual emotional problem in it should start here rather than at book one. A June 17, 2017 response, arriving three months after the recording, calls this the book that dislodged its previous favorite in the series and puts Tucker at the top of the Briar list. If accidental pregnancy is a trope you enjoy rather than endure, this is among the better executions of it.

Steer clear if pregnancy plots are a hard limit, if you want your romance closed-door, or if you need the couple to spend the book falling in love rather than negotiating a life. Steer clear too if a decade-old campus setting will grate; this was written for 2016 and the college it imagines has not aged in the meantime.

Four usable responses, a badge assembled from every edition ever sold, and a publisher's description that forgot it was selling a recording. The novel underneath all that is better organized than any of it, and Tucker is the reason.

Common Questions

Why does one review on this audiobook talk about condition rather than the story?

Because paperbacks, ebooks and this recording all feed one badge. Somebody grading a package they were happy with contributes exactly as much to the average as somebody who finished the novel. Check the wording and the date of each response before you let the number decide anything.

Is the audiobook the full novel or an adaptation?

The record shows a runtime of 10 hours and 39 minutes with no abridgment marker, which is a full-length contemporary romance. What the page does carry, oddly, is a cover design copyright line for the print jacket, sitting at the end of a description otherwise written to sell a recording.

From Lala’s Book ReviewsTW/CW: accidental pregnancy and thoughts about terminating the pregnancyI have finally made it to Tucker and Sabrina’s book! A sexy, frustrating sports romance that made me want to scream from the inside out!!

The Goal is an unpredictable, messy romance that follows a determined, headstrong, stoic law student and a sweet, laidback southern hockey player as they find their plans on thin ice, their goals suddenly beyond their reach. Sabrina and Tucker are two very different personalities headed in two very different directions....
