About This Audiobook

She disappeared on their wedding day. Now she’s back, and someone wants her dead.

Zane Knox is a man who doesn’t exist. The former Navy SEAL has spent years buried in the shadows, forced into off-books missions for a government agency that doesn’t technically exist. He doesn’t do it because he wants to...he does it because if he refuses, the secrets he carries will send him to prison.

He’s made peace with living as a ghost. Until the woman who left him at the altar shows up on his boat, battered and begging for medical supplies.

Tessa Lane doesn’t know who is after her or why, only that nowhere is safe. She no longer believes in God, in love, or the vows she nearly made to Zane. But when the past collides with a deadly present, she has no choice but to trust the one man she swore she’d never face again.

Protecting her may be Zane’s mission, but restoring Tessa’s faith - and rekindling the love he never gave up on - is a fight he refuses to lose.

Even if it costs him everything.

Explosive action. Unfinished business. And a second chance worth dying for.

Ninety-eight ratings and five written responses sit on this listing, and every one of the written ones was posted before the audiobook came out. Jessica Ashley opens the Iron Tide Brotherhood with a woman who vanished on her wedding day and the man she left at the altar, who has since been buried so deep in off-books work that the paperwork says he does not exist. Jarman Day reads the seven hours and forty minutes, B.A.D. Publishing released it on March 12, 2026, and the story underneath is a good deal more specific than the categories it has been filed under.

Faith Anchors Zane and Tessa's Rescue Plot

Zane Knox runs missions for an agency that technically is not one, and stays because refusing puts the secrets in a courtroom. Tessa Lane arrives on his boat battered, asking for medical supplies, with no idea who wants her dead. Chelsey Zarraga, who filed the sole four on this page, sorts the parts efficiently: fast-paced romance with suspense and mystery, dual point of view, no spice, a domestic violence survivor on one side and a man owned by a secret government on the other. That is the book.

Faith is the spine, not the trim. The copy states plainly that Tessa no longer believes in God, in love, or in the vows she nearly made, and that restoring that belief is the fight Zane refuses to lose. Every written response treats the faith thread as central. Yet the record files this under literary fiction, mystery and romance, with one tag reading Genre Fiction and no religious category anywhere. A reader shopping for inspirational suspense will never surface it, and a reader shopping the thriller shelf may be surprised by what arrives.

Five Reviews Arrived Before the Recording Did

Now the dates. All five written responses landed in the three weeks before the release date, which makes this pool a pre-publication wave rather than a reaction to the recording. Their five grades break four fives and a four, averaging exactly the 4.8 the page prints across ninety-eight votes, which is an unusually tidy coincidence. What it means in practice is that the enthusiasm on display was earned by the manuscript and the ebook, and the ninety-three ratings nobody can read are the only part of that number that might include listeners.

Day Alone Voices a Former Operator and a Survivor

Dual viewpoint is what makes the premise work. A protection plot puts one character in the dark by design, and running both heads lets Ashley keep the threat legible while Tessa still cannot see it, which is a harder trick than it looks and the reason the suspense does not stall while the romance catches up. The alternation also solves the credibility problem a second-chance story always has, since you get both accounts of the wedding day instead of one side's grievance.

JE, writing at five stars, puts a finger on the strongest thing here: characters who feel like real people, requiring no suspension of disbelief, imperfect, moving through good times and bad, moments of confidence and insecurity, great faithfulness and dark nights of the soul. That last phrase is doing real work. This is a romance that lets its leads be spiritually stuck for long stretches rather than fixing them at the halfway mark.

Jarman Day is credited alone, which means one voice carries a book built on two. Alternating viewpoint is the format's oldest casting question, since one reader must keep a former operator and a woman in hiding audibly separate for seven and a half hours without tipping into caricature. Plenty of romantic suspense uses two readers precisely to avoid the problem, and this production did not, which is a decision worth knowing about before you commit an evening.

Content Warnings the Listing Leaves You to Find

AllegraCVPM raises the one caution I would repeat, and raises it from inside a five-star rave: so many twists and turns that keeping them straight was a struggle. In print that costs you a flip backward. In audio it costs you a scrub through a timeline you cannot see, and a plot this dense punishes the half-attentive listening most people give a romance. Save it for a stretch where you can actually follow it.

Content signaling is thin on the page. Readers supply what the listing will not: that the romance stays closed door and stops at kisses, that Tessa's history includes domestic violence, and that the faith material is explicit rather than atmospheric. All three matter to buyers in this category, in different directions, and all three are left to be discovered. A single line in the description would have solved it.

The copy also closes on three ad-copy fragments about explosive action, unfinished business and a second chance worth dying for, which tells you nothing the previous paragraphs did not. B.A.D. Publishing is a small house and the record shows the usual gaps that come with that, no page count, no listed extras, no indication of what else in the series exists. What the description does well is the setup; what it withholds is everything a listener would use to decide.

Closed-Door Faith Readers Get a Confident Opener

Christian romantic suspense readers are the intended audience and will be well served. Sarah M. describes it as a high-stakes closed-door Christian romance built on second chances, faith, forgiveness, restoration and found family, which is an accurate contents label. If those five words describe your shelf, this delivers all of them inside one plot rather than parceling them across a trilogy.

Pass on it if you want heat, since multiple readers confirm the door stays closed and the affection stops at kisses. Pass too if the theology would grate, because the redemptive frame is explicit and constant rather than atmospheric. And listeners who like a suspense plot they can predict will find this one moves faster and turns harder than that.

For a series opener from an independent house, this is a confident piece of work with a clear audience and an unusually engaged one. My reservation is not about the writing but about the fit between a plot this crowded and a format that will not let you go back and check. Come to it rested, and let the twists arrive at the speed the book intends.

The Short Version

  • Narrator: Jarman Day is credited alone on a book that alternates two viewpoints, so one voice holds both halves of the second chance.
  • Subjects: Second-chance romance, faith lost and rebuilt, an operator who cannot refuse an order.
  • Tone: High-stakes, warm-hearted, closed-door.
  • Bottom line: Inspirational romantic suspense that delivers its premise, with more plot than the format comfortably carries.
