Dark Awakening: New World

"Your destiny awaits across the stars," Ell-rom's mother told him. "The seer foretold your future. You will live, and you will thrive, and you will be safe."

The seer's prophecy has come true. Ell-rom and his sister are safe, surrounded by people who care for them and want to help them heal, which is in stark contrast to where they came from. On Anumati, they were considered abominations because of their mixed heritage. As half gods and half Kra-ell, they would have been eradicated if ever discovered.

But even as he clings to that thought like a talisman against the darkness, he can't shake the lingering sense of unease, the feeling that something lurked in the shadows of his past, something dark and dangerous that is much worse than his inability to tolerate the taste of blood.

What is it about him and his sister that he is not supposed to let anyone see?

Dark Awakening Hidden Currents

As Ell-rom's latent abilities resurface, he confronts an unexpected nemesis - himself. Haunted by emerging memories that paint him as the monster everyone feared, he grapples with an unexpected aversion that threatens not only his relationship with Jasmine but her transition into immortality as well. With his sister still comatose, Ell-rom must conquer his inner demons on his own and secure their future.

Dark Awakening Echoes of Destiny

Secrets unravel and loyalties are tested in the gripping finale of the Dark Awakening trilogy. As Ell-rom and Jasmine face their most daunting challenges yet, a young prodigy's awakening abilities threaten to upset the immortal community's delicate balance.

As echoes of the past resurface, who will rise, who will fall, and who will ultimately answer destiny's call?

Key Details

  • Narrator: Charles Lawrence is the sole credit on a file that stitches three separate novels into one continuous listen.
  • Subjects: Recovered memory, mixed-heritage persecution, transition into immortality, a couple tested by what one of them is becoming.
  • Tone: Warm and serialized, with a heavy lore load.
  • Bottom line: Excellent value for series regulars, and a poor doorway for anyone arriving cold.

Three novels arrive inside this one audiobook, and the title field mentions none of it. The description opens with a contents list: Dark Awakening: New World, Dark Awakening Hidden Currents, Dark Awakening Echoes of Destiny. The record itself says only Dark Awakening, credits Charles Lawrence with ten hours and twelve minutes, and leaves the number blank under a series called The Children of The Gods Series. Anyone searching for Echoes of Destiny by name will never land here. Anyone wondering whether this is the place to start gets no answer from any field on the page, while all three written responses make it plain that it is not.

Where This One Lands

Ell-rom arrives already rescued, which is an unusual place to begin. The first part opens after the escape, with him and his sister safe among people who want to help them heal, so the tension comes from what he cannot remember rather than from what is chasing him. The second part gives that unease a name: latent abilities resurface, memories arrive that paint him as the monster everyone feared, and an aversion he did not expect threatens both his relationship with Jasmine and her transition into immortality. The third turns outward, to a young prodigy whose awakening abilities upset the immortal community's balance. Three movements, one arc, and the shape is closer to a serialized drama than to three books that happen to share a shelf.

Anumati is where the premise earns its keep. Ell-rom and his sister are half gods and half Kra-ell, a mixed heritage that would have seen them eradicated if it were ever discovered, and that single fact carries the moral weight of the whole run: a society that destroys what it cannot classify, and a young man who has quietly accepted its verdict on himself. His inability to tolerate the taste of blood works the same way, a small physical detail standing in for a larger dread. Blood tolerance, venom bites and transitions into immortality are the machinery here, and the love plot runs on that machinery rather than beside it, which is either the appeal or the obstacle depending on the listener.

The Best Parts of Dark Awakening

Jasmine and Ell-rom are the reason the five stars keep arriving. The July 2025 entry calls this "Another fantastic tale, woven by I. T. Lucas" and reports being unable to wait to see what happened next. The response filed in the United Kingdom in April 2025 says "Elle- Rom and Jasmine's story is so loving and cute," admits to reading "until the early hours," and has already started the whole run over from the beginning. The August 2025 entry praises the way Lucas keeps characters from earlier books present "by writing them back in from time to time," and credits the series with raising real-world concerns such as human trafficking. Loyalty rather than novelty is what this column rewards.

Lawrence is the name attached to all three parts, which is worth a pause on a set this size. One voice has to hold Ell-rom, his sister, Jasmine, the returning cast that August 2025 entry mentions, and whatever the third part's prodigy turns out to be, without a second reader to mark the seams. The record supplies no cast list, no chapter titles and no indication of where one novel ends and the next begins. A listener who likes to stop at a volume break will find that information in exactly one place, the description's contents list, which at least names the three parts in the order they run.

What Gives Us Pause

Pages are the strangest thing on this listing. The record carries a page count of 808 and a thirteen-digit ISBN beside a runtime of ten hours and twelve minutes, which works out to roughly eighty pages an hour if both numbers describe the same object. The publisher, language and ISBN lines also arrive with stray invisible characters in front of them, the formatting debris of a row lifted from a print catalog. None of that proves the audio is cut, and I am not claiming it is. It does mean a print omnibus and an audio edition are sharing one page, and that a buyer who wants all three novels read in full should check the runtime against the contents list before paying.

Continuity is the second thing to check. The series line reads The Children of The Gods Series and the number field is empty, so nothing here tells you how many books come before this one. The column does. That August 2025 entry asks whether an experiment with venom bites might let Marina and Lusha live longer, and whether a character called Kian ought to have that answer already, a question no newcomer could follow. The April 2025 response is looking forward to Morelle's story next and rereading the series from its first book. Both are the words of established readers, and the blank number field should be treated as a missing signpost rather than an all-clear.

Who Should Pick Up Dark Awakening

Immortality sagas that accumulate a cast instead of resetting one are a specific taste, and this is a generous example of the form. Three novels, one purchase, a continuous arc that starts with two survivors being kept safe and ends with loyalties tested and a balance upset. The furniture is science fictional, with another world, a seer's prophecy and a species called the Kra-ell, but the center of gravity is a couple, and the crisis is whether one of them can survive what the other is becoming. Listeners who already know this world will recognize the pleasure the column keeps describing, which is watching familiar names walk back into frame.

Order matters more here than the record admits. The first book of The Children of The Gods is not on this page, the number field is blank, and every written response belongs to somebody who has been reading for years. If that describes you, this is three novels in a single file and the April 2025 headline says the series only gets better. If it does not, begin at the start of the run and come back for Ell-rom once Kian, Morelle and the rest mean something to you. The 4.6 average across 87 grades belongs to eighty-four voters this page never shows you.

Good to Know

Does this audiobook contain all three Dark Awakening novels or only the first?

The description lists three: New World, Hidden Currents and Echoes of Destiny. The title field names only Dark Awakening, and the ten-hour runtime is the only number a buyer can use to sanity-check whether all three are present in full.

How current is the audiobook edition and the reaction to it?

The release date is April 5, 2025, and the three written responses were filed on April 28, July 6 and August 27 of that same year. Every grade on the page was therefore posted after this edition existed, which is not something a buyer can assume elsewhere.

Extended life experiment?

I have enjoyed this series so much. Lucas has a wonderful way of keeping characters from earlier books included by writing them back in from time to time. It amazes me how Lucas touches on real world concerns such as human trafficking in a way that heightens awareness to these...
