About This Audiobook

“A Tribute of Fire is a must-read...” - Jennifer L. Armentrout, #1 New York Times and international bestselling author.

The fate of a cursed nation depends on a princess who must outwit a mortal enemy and outlast the trials of a death-defying ritual in a thrilling adventure by USA Today bestselling author Sariah Wilson.

Lia is the princess of Locris, a dying desert nation cursed centuries ago by an earth goddess - one still worshipped by the thriving and adversarial nation of Ilion. Every year, Ilion offers the goddess a sacrifice: two Locrian maidens forced to compete in a life-and-death race to reach her temple. In a millennium, no maiden has made it out of Ilion alive. This year, Lia is one of the hunted.

An education in battle gives her a fighting chance, but the challenges are greater than she feared: Lia’s beloved but untrained sister Quynh has been put in the path of danger. The winding streets of Ilion itself have been transformed into a labyrinthine maze of countless choices and dead ends. And if the risks weren’t significant enough, Lia is reluctantly drawn to the commandingly attractive Jason, an Ilionian sailor she loathes to trust and desires like no man before.

The tribute game is on. It’s up to Lia to lift the goddess’s curse, restore Locris to its former glory, and change the fate of every young woman destined to follow in her path.

One response on this listing gives away the ending in capital letters. It does at least type the word SPOILER first, which is more courtesy than most, but the reveal sits in plain view on the very screen you visit before deciding whether to spend seventeen hours with this audiobook. That is the second problem with the page. The first is that nobody who has written here agrees on what A Tribute of Fire even is.

Is A Tribute of Fire Worth Your Time?

Lia is the princess of Locris, a dying desert nation cursed centuries ago by an earth goddess who is still worshipped by the rival nation of Ilion. Every year Ilion feeds that goddess two Locrian maidens, forced into a life-and-death race toward her temple, and the copy states flatly that in a millennium not one has come out of Ilion alive. This year Lia is among the hunted, her untrained sister Quynh stands in the path of it, and the streets of Ilion have been rebuilt into a maze. Strong premise, cleanly stated.

Forty-four points out of a possible fifty is where ten votes at 4.4 have to land, which puts the book exactly six points short of unanimity. Five of those six missing points belong to voters whose grades arrived with no sentence attached. The sixth is Muffinloafgamer's four-star grade, and it comes with the only reservation anybody troubled to explain. A badge cannot separate one furious reader from six mildly hesitant ones, so the useful number here is not 4.4 but the six, and where it sits.

Nobody on this page agrees about what they have just finished. The catalog entry says book one of The Eye of the Goddess. Debra calls it a trilogy and reports being sad to have it end. Malea is reading Book 2 while typing. CrazyAboutBooks filed under the heading Part 1 of 2, available July 2025, which might describe the review or might describe the story. Shannon Walsh reports a cliffhanger with an unusually strong effect. The truth about the shape of this series is somewhere in that pile, and the metadata is not where you will find it.

The Best Parts of A Tribute of Fire

Therese Plummer is the credited reader, working alone across seventeen hours and twenty-four minutes. That is a substantial shift for one voice, and the world it has to carry is thick with invented proper nouns: Locris, Ilion, Ilionian, Quynh, adelphia, and a run of Locrian rituals with no obvious English anchor. One reader means one consistent set of pronunciation decisions holding for the whole run, which matters more in a book like this than in most. It also means whatever register the sisters receive, they receive it for seventeen hours.

Greek is a flavor here, not a source, and CrazyAboutBooks pins the description precisely: a romantasy loosely based on the Greek mythology time period. Locris and Ilion carry the sound of the classical world without the description claiming any historical anchor for either, and the earth goddess at the center of the whole arrangement is never given a name in the copy at all. That withholding works. A deity nobody can name is harder to bargain with, and Lia spends the book unable to bargain.

Predictable is Muffinloafgamer's word for the plot, and specifically for the final twists. Malea, arriving at the same ending, answers in capitals and mangled punctuation and the words JAW DROPPED. Muffinloafgamer's grade is the four. Malea's is a five. Both of them meant it. That gap is the most useful thing on this page, because it says the ending is either visible from a great distance or genuinely startling depending on how much of this genre you have already read, and seventeen hours is a long wait for a reveal you saw coming in hour three.

Sisters are what these readers actually came back to praise, on a title the catalog files under romance. Muffinloafgamer says the dynamic between Lia and her sisters is what elevates the whole narrative, and notes that they are not related by blood. Shannon Walsh calls them an adelphia, a found family of women whose bond is beautifully portrayed. Jason, the love interest the copy leads with, receives an oh boy and a trailing ellipsis. The romance tag is accurate enough. The enthusiasm is aimed elsewhere.

Before You Commit to A Tribute of Fire

Jennifer L. Armentrout gets the first line of this description, ahead of the story it sells. The endorsement arrives, then Sariah Wilson is identified by sales ranking, and only after both of those does the story get a sentence. That ordering is standard for the category and still worth noticing here, because the synopsis underneath the scaffolding is specific and confident and did not need an escort in front of it.

Seventeen hours and twenty-four minutes ends on a cliffhanger. Shannon Walsh says so outright, Malea's reaction confirms it, and the listing calls this book one. If unresolved endings are a problem for you, the problem is a large one here, since you will have spent the better part of a working week arriving at it. Whether the next book exists yet is a question this page manages to answer three different ways, which is not the same as answering it once.

CrazyAboutBooks wrote in on October 28, 2024, four days ahead of the Brilliance Audio release, having taken the book as a first-read selection. The response spends most of its length on top-hundred lists and a plan to catch up on John Steinbeck before reaching the word romantasy and a Greek mythology setting. It is a generous, unhurried piece of writing. It is also, unavoidably, about a copy nobody had heard yet.

Should You Listen to A Tribute of Fire?

Fantasy romance listeners with an appetite for Greek-flavored trials and a long runtime are the target, and Malea offers the shortest test available: if ACOTAR and The Hunger Games worked for you, this will. Anyone who wants found-family sisterhood carrying at least as much weight as the love interest will get precisely that, on the evidence of two separate responses that go out of their way to say so.

The seventeen-hour commitment is the real filter, and the unresolved ending is the second one. Listeners who need a story to close inside a single book should wait until the sequence is settled, because this page cannot even establish whether that means two books or three. The responses under this listing are a minefield until you have finished, for reasons the capital letters make plain.

Does this audiobook end on a cliffhanger?

Yes, and two reviewers say so in different registers. One reports never having been hit so hard by a cliffhanger, another responds to the ending in block capitals and mangled punctuation. Seventeen hours and twenty-four minutes makes for a long approach to an unresolved finish, so plan accordingly before starting.

Is one narrator enough for a world with this many invented names?

It is the arrangement you get, and it has real advantages. Therese Plummer is credited alone, so Locris, Ilion, Quynh and the rest receive one consistent pronunciation across the full run. The tradeoff is that a large cast of sisters shares a single voice for the entire seventeen hours.

Should you read the reviews before starting this audiobook?

No. One response prints a major reveal in capital letters, flagged with the word spoiler but sitting fully visible in the open. Another discusses the final twists in enough detail to shape your expectations. Save the whole column for afterward, when the disagreement about the ending becomes genuinely interesting.
